Post #3- Week 1: Reflection on welcome activity videos

Social media is the #1 activity on the web.... It took 4 years for the internet to reach 50 million users... The computer in your cell phone is 1 million times cheaper, 1000 times more powerful, and 100,000 times smaller than that of 1 MIT computer in 1965... These are astounding statistics. Times are changing, the technological revolution is upon us, and the classroom is a great place to use these emerging technologies to help create competent and empowered students. If I want to make the greatest impact on my students, then I must be willing to become competent with the technology they are using. I need to be willing to create an environment of learning that my kids are familiar with and accustom to. This means if I want to reach my students on the greatest level, I need to revolve some of my teaching methods around emerging technology such as having a facebook page, or creating a blog for the class. Children today are living in a society where technology is at their disposal in every aspect of their lives. I need to make sure that I find a way to incorporate things like YouTube, and others to enhance the learning experience. It is imperative that all teachers get on board with this way of thinking. Technology is here to stay, so let's use it to our advantage!

  1. Great idea to post the original video; reflect upon it; then embed your Yodio reflection. You are definitely on the techie / 'digital citizen' end of the spectrum, so your comfort zone will be much different that those candidates who have not had the experiences that you have had. And the students in your classroom will be exactly the same --- all over the spectrum. And therein lies one of the many challenges.
